Summary: Circa 1802, the Mediterranean Sea. Daniel's ship is captured by Jack.
Why This Must Be Read:
AUs should take the characters out of their usual setting but still be true to them. This story does it quite lovely. There's romance between two grown-up, self-confident men without being too sweet or cloying. The details are nicely done, but do not clutter the story and only add to the atmosphere.
A story I love to re-read.
“All good things must come to an end,” or, better, “Vanity, vanity, all is vanity”, Daniel Jackson thought, as a seaman from the attacking ship came up beside him and kicked him in the left shin. The kick was hard enough that it nudged him off balance, causing him to poorly execute a parry against the marine who was attacking from the front. Jackson’s blade slid uselessly against the heaviest segment of his opponent’s, giving the marine a momentary advantage that was just enough to let him disarm Jackson.
Jackson braced his shoulder against the mainmast, which prevented the kick from landing him on his ass. He winced as he watched his rapier flip through the air, thump to the deck and slide uselessly toward Teal’c.
