Mod Moment

I've said this in my journal, now I'll say it here where the three hundred and ninety two members and six hundred and thirty eight watchers can read it.

I don't speak a lot but I'm going to say this.

These fics do not rec themselves and with this many people watching the community and being involved with the community we should not be begging for volunteers on a month to month basis. This month is especially bad and quite frankly, it's embarrassing.

I know it may seem intimidating to do this but I promise you it's not. We're not asking for a Siskel & Roper review just the pertinent information and a little why you liked it. A minimum of four recs in a month is hardly a stretch either. One a week? Twenty minutes to do and that's if you're a slow typist.

Believe me when I say if we don't get enough people volunteering, the community will cease to exist and it won't be because we haven't tried. At this point we've done everything short of rec every single category at one time ourselves.

At the end of the day, the ball is in your court here.

A minimum of four stories in a month...

That's all we're asking.

eta: if you're not sure *where* to go exactly the volunteer posts are listed in memories here. They're in a different comm so as not to clutter this one up.

I think I'ver already said this, but I'll be volunteering in the future. I've already done a few months in a row, but working on my thesis now so that takes priority. ;)

I'm almost done, so I'll probably be able to come in and help again sometime in the near future.

I'm hoping [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] will reply here too with her ideas. We have set up with a 'sister'-type community (or two) that are run by fellow members. People use them as sort of archives.

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]

And this comm is for asking... "Where's this fic?" even if you don't know the title...

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]

So those are my ideas for finding links. Hope they help!

When I couldn't get Jack/Daniel, the pairing I read most often, I rec'ced slash and did mostly Jack/Daniel recs (though I did make an effort to include non-J/D as well). Maybe that would work for you?

[livejournal.com profile] sganewsletter tags their fic by character or pairing; it's all there in their memories - the lists are *huge*.

Sorry about that. I meant [livejournal.com profile] sga_newsletter.

Like I said I'm always up to reccing Shep/Weir if noone else volunteers. I just finished reccing fics for this month because of school. Guh it needs to be over so I can spend all my time re-reading fics. I just don't like to rec something on a hunch that I thought it was good a year ago.

So yes I volunteer for shep/weir again, unless you guys don't want me too because I did it at the last minute this month :)

The problem that I am having is that every time I go to volunteer, everything that I could possibly rec for is taken. I don't read Sheppard/Ford, Sma and Jack friendship or SM/BSDM, for example. There are so many categories that I know nothing about- maybe I'm just one of those boring OTP-er's that doesn't like dipping my toe in other pairings but that's just me and that leaves me at a loss.

It's frustrating because I want to help but I don't know what I could possibly rec out of the categories that are left and I think that there are lots and lots of people like myself out there that just feel that there isn't a category that they are qualified to make recs for.

[identity profile] angelsgracie.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
And I think that people have a misunderstanding that they have to wait to sign up. If you see a category you want to rec, go sign up for it NOW. Get your name on the list and when it comes up, either [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] or I will let you know. For example, the Jack/Daniel category has two or three people in line. Get your name on the list and you'll get it a turn! :)

Hey, I'd love to say I could do it this month, but I've handed over my tagging to Carolyn cause I'm taking a major stress break from the 'net sowwee *hugs you*

No one's taken Teal'c yet with the

No one's taken Teal'c yet with the <ljuser="tealc_ficathon"> ending and all sorts of new fics to choose from?

Okay. Put me down for Teal'c for May. :-) Oh heck, I'll be a masochist and put me down for Daniel too. Does that help?

[identity profile] angelsgracie.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
You actually need to go to the sign up sheet to volunteer to rec.

Volunteer To Be A Rec'cer (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=sgrecclaims) or there's another post that I posted where you can click the actual link to the category you want! If the categories have been taken already, just get your name on the list for next month. :)

Oh boy, so this would be a bad time to say I don't know that I can recc for the foreseeable future. I'm currently holding down two jobs (am actually at the one right now), and my husband is stressing out over finals (he's a Physical Therapy student). I'm looking for one job with decent money *g*

But I'm saddened that other folks aren't coming forward to recc as well. It used to be that Sam/Jack was popular, and now...

Let me see how May goes, and maybe I can pick up some categories again after that. Sorry.

I would love to rec....

[identity profile] winterstar95.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
but I am a complete idiot when it comes to this kind of stuff. If you could give me a short instructional, then I could probably rec for Daniel Jackson or Jack/Daniel slash...

There is an FAQ page that may answer any question you have. It talks about how to make entries and such. Give it a read and if you have any questions, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I have our email addresses on the userinfo page, feel free to email us!

Okay - I think I will try it out. I would like to rec for Daniel Jackson - I will see if I can go to the rec page and volunteer!

Take a look at the Rec Post that I posted shortly after [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] posted this one. It will give you the links to the categories you want to post and you can sign up there! Thank you for volunteering! :)
