On what is scheduled to be the last day of his life, Jack really has nothing better to do than irritate the agent sent to kill him. (No retired Generals were significantly harmed in the making of this fic)

Why This Must Be Read: 

A fun little fic about Jack in retirement. The idea of Jack suffering from dementia and memory loss is sad but it works here. When someone finally comes to take Jack out, he gets rescued by an unlikely saviour.

Jack was having a good day when they finally came for him.

This was arguably bad for Jack and definitely bad for the agent who came for him.

“What took you so long?”

“Politics.”

“That figures.”

Jack could well imagine some young idealist arguing that there had to be some safe place to send him to live out his remaining days in peace. Someone like… there was a dark chasm in his memory there and he hastily backed off. More important to keep what wits he could about him right now and not get lost in the gaps.
