Why This Must Be Read: Lori gives us John Sheppard, unbonded Sentinel, and Rodney McKay, unwilling Guide, in a series of vignettes and longer stories about both the military (hurry up and wait) and Sentinels in that setting, (patience is not always a virtue). Although the series is marked incomplete, each story stands on its own while setting up for the next. I enjoyed it for the insights into Sheppard the officer and Sheppard the Sentinel, as well as how he relates to people, especially Rodney McKay, when he has no other choices.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a favourite of mine, also known as "the WAFGON fic". (Summary: Technically, it’s known as Operation Phoenix, but that’s a little too optimistic for Jack, who calls it the WAFGON plan: We’re All Fucked; Get Out Now.)
Earth is lost to a combination of the Ori and the Trust, but Atlantis goes on, and survivors from Earth trickle in by various routes. As with all apocafic it's a tough premise, but the writing's excellent with our favourite characters struggling to adapt to, survive and escape after the catastrophe, making it a gripping read.
