Admin: First Of The Month

Ok, well here it is. Part 1 of the first of the month post.

First off, I'm a bit bummed that there were no volunteers for this...

Holiday Fic Recs You can still sign up!!!

But then again, it may have been lost in the second thing I want to say.

Feb 3-9 16 Recs
Feb 10-16 20 Recs
Feb 17-23 16 Recs
Feb 24-29 45 Recs

Now, upon closer look there were 18 recs on February 29th! I'm just... that's a lot of people doing very last minute recs. This floods people's flists with entries. It puts a lot of pressure on the volunteers who put recs into memories because those have to be done before the first of the month (because new rec'cers need the memories up-to-date to avoid duplicate recs). I've asked many times, and I really don't want to cap the number of recs done by a rec'cer in one day, but this cannot be a recurring event. Edit: Duplicate recs within the rec category. I have always said that I don't mind duplicate recs, but not within the same Rec Category. That's in the FAQ as well.

PLEASE plan your rec's in advance. DO NOT wait until the last day of the month to do all your recs. There are a lot of days in a month. A lot of them. So please, please spread them out!!!!!!!

Next, I am going to be incommunicado from Wednesday to Sunday. I'll be completely net-less. Therefore, daily running of the comm is going to be done by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. You can email her if it is an emergency, but I'm sure everyone will play nice while I'm gone.

Part 2 will be coming when I get back. :) So, happy rec'cing!

Woah. I had no intention of making it harder for them. I'm just throwing ideas of how to make the comm better, and by no means do I have high expectations for these ideas. Just like I said, throwing ideas out.

I know first hand the hard work and dedication to a comm. I also moderate (a lot of comm and sites). And you know what I was planning to volunteer if they decided to take the idea of a master list.

If we had no tags and no memories, a master list would be perfect. Since we do, a master list would be redundant and would grow into a very unwieldy project very fast. In theory, nice idea, but in practice...it's just not worth the effort. It would not be difficult in the sense of ease, but it would be in the sense of time investment and continued monitoring.

Plus, there is the fact a lot of people enjoy repeat recs. Bringing up things people might have previously missed.

I personally enjoy repeat recs. I kinda just threw this idea because *above* you wanted to avoid them.

Always though master list would just be cool for the fandom in general.

within the same category we do try to avoid it. In varying categories it's fine. Again, the tags and the memories are quite sufficient to avoid it. There is no need for a master list. It would be duplicating the work of people who already spend hours every month corralling and organizing the recs into their respective categories. Creating a master list would, in effect, double the amount of time and work for something that would be, in essence, exactly what we already have.

Understandable. I agree that there is no need for one. Although I seem to be pretty adamant, it really was just a wild idea and I was kind of just presenting a case for it. Old habit I guess from all those years of moderating.
