Why This Must Be Read: Cute story about Jack & Sara living next door to Daniel's first foster placement for a couple weeks and the magic that Jack can work on kids, and vice versa. ;) It's AU because the timeline is fudged.

Also, this story gets major bonus points for avoiding the two biggest cliches in kid-daniel fic (overdoing the asthma/allergies thing & violence in foster care). It also won best AU story (ship category) in the 2006 stargate fan awards. :)

Jack smacked down the lock on the side of the car's door and slammed the door shut. He tried to bite back his anger, but as usual his wife continued pushing the conversation despite the fact that he'd told her he didn't want to pursue the matter.

"Don't you think *I* deserve some say in this?" She slammed her own door just as loudly and stormed around the front of the car. Her blue eyes flashed hotly and her face was red with indignation as she stood face to face with him. "You're the one who's going to be away for months at a time. If I want to raise a child on my own, I should be the one to make the decision."

"And I told you, I don't like kids."

psst, mods: This story has been recc'd in 'Genre: Other' before, but as a kidfic and wasn't tagged as pre-series so I thought it'd be OK to make sure people gave it a read as a pre-series story as well. But if that's not enough to count under the 'ok to rec again in a different category rule' that's ok too :) (uhm, I just read the faq and I can't find that rule, so maybe I made it up? you can scrap this if i did. sorry.. hehe i'm lost)
