Summary: Set during “The Siege”. The Daedalus has a couple of extra passengers on her first trip to Atlantis, so she arrives a little earlier – just early enough to stop Sheppard’s kamikaze run on Hiveship #1 from even starting.

Why This Must Be Read: It’s a believable alternative ending to "The Siege", if you can get round the fact that certain SG1 characters have been permitted to travel to Atlantis “on loan”. I also love Col. Caldwell in this fic: he’s almost like a cross between Hammond and O’Neill in how he gets John to do what’s probably best ("A senior officer never blackmails… He applies leverage."), plus there’s a past history with Rodney ("McKay, am I going to have to remind you of the Siberian llama incident?").
