Why This Must Be Read: This is such a fun fic written for the Kill Your Double Exchange featuring Carter and TBFTGOG!Carter. What if Carter had followed Daniel through the quantum mirror? The treatment of Carter as a familiar face vs Daniel as an unfamiliar face in canon is interesting.
"Dr. Carter?" a familiar voice asks from just beyond the blast doors.
"General Hammond?" Sam stares as Hammond hurries into the gate room, dressed in fatigues and wearing a different rank than he should be. He gestures to the men lined up in front of the ramp, and they lower their weapons, though they don't step down.
"General? Do I look like a general to you?" He stares right back at her, baffled. "This had better be some kind of joke, Dr. Carter. Who the hell is that? And why were you offworld? You haven't been authorized to leave the base yet."
"That," Sam shoots back, frowning, "is Dr. Daniel Jackson. Where's the rest of SG-1? They should have been just ahead of us!"
A lieutenant hurries into the gate room just behind Hammond and whispers something to him. He gestures again, and suddenly the guns are trained on Sam and Daniel once more.
"I have just been informed that the real Dr. Carter is still in the labs upstairs. So who the hell are you?"
