Author’s summary: When John walks in on a flagrant breach of the DADT regulations, he needs to act quickly to protect his XO. What he doesn’t expect is the series of events which that one action sets in motion.

Why This Must Be Read:
It's such a wonderful read that makes you giggle and warms your heart.
Ani272 herself starts her fic with the note "Beware that the Rodney in this story is more of a Season 1 Rodney than a Season 5 one - except where he isn’t. You’ll see!"—and yes, the story shows Rodney at his best, being snarky yet soft-hearted and protective, and it's so easy to lose your heart to him. It feels like a stage play in times of DADT, deeply emotional yet lighthearted, and everyone is so in character, and they deserve their happiness together so much. It's a delightful fic of trials and tribulations and ultimate happiness that's truly worth a read, or two, or three...

John sighed as he pushed his laptop away, giving up on the IOA report for tonight. Pining for Rodney was becoming a full-time job, and it was starting to affect his work performance.

He stood and made his slow and sorry way towards the mess hall, wishing with every aspect of his being that DADT didn’t exist, that Rodney wasn’t on his team, that he wasn’t the Military Commander in charge of everything with everyone looking up to him and watching his every move...

Shaking his head, John acknowledged that his biggest issue with propositioning Rodney was the fear that Rodney wouldn’t be able to keep it quiet, keep it hidden, and the last thing John wanted was to end up in the dock at his own court-martial.

Grabbing a jello cup and a muffin, John trudged towards the labs. At least he had Rodney’s friendship; the guy was an open book. Rodney shared everything with John and it was a balm to his bruised heart, letting him have as much of a relationship as he could have, given his unwillingness to cross any of the lines that were stopping him from getting what he wanted most in the universe.

With his hands full, John thought the door to Rodney’s lab open, barely noticing the extra mental push needed to overcome the lock until it was too late.

His mouth fell open in shock as he stuttered to a stop a few steps inside the room, his eyes widening in horrified heartbreak at the scene playing out before him.

Rodney wasn’t alone in his lab.

He wasn’t alone at all.

Major Evan Lorne had him pinned against his lab bench, bodies pushing eagerly together as their mouths ravaged each other’s.

They hadn’t noticed John’s intrusion, too busy with what they were doing, and John stood, stunned and shocked, as Rodney pushed Lorne back just enough to pull the man’s t-shirt off over his head before they were once again locked in a very passionate embrace.

Only a few seconds had passed, and John was still reeling from the heartbreaking discovery when he heard footsteps in the hall and the terrifyingly ominous words, “Caldwell out.”

Realising he’d left the door open – had actually forced the lock on the door and left it open – John felt a surge of adrenaline race through him as the risk to Lorne’s career loomed strongly in his mind.
