Thanks for your thoughts. The locking of accounts on AO3 is, I agree, not uncommon, and the problem of scraped fics isn't a new one - I know many authors who have locked down their fics because of increased scraping from years ago.
Because it's not a new problem, there really isn't a reason to change the comm policy. Yes, there are authors out there that I wish would unlock their fics. Yes, it's relatively easy to get an account at AO3 these days. I will discuss it with the other mods, but at this time, we'll continue to ask for an open URL. Many authors post first to DW or other sites, even if they subsequently archive on AO3, and that can often serve as an alternative link.
