Why This Must Be Read: One of my favorite "Jack retires" fics, giving us a Jack preparing for his retirement party while he prepares for his new post-SGC life. The author's pace and flow perfectly reflect Jack's mood here and the place he's reached in his life, and ably creates in the reader the same breathless anticipation for his future that can be found in Jack. While not stinting on the realistic hardships, past and future, that impact their relationship, this story is a believable mix of heartbreaking and heartwarming in ways that are unabashedly, yet subtly Jack/Daniel style romantic.
