Why This Must Be Read: This fic deals with Jack dealing (badly) with loss and does it well. I liked it because it's set early on in S1 and the author has Jack and Daniel still very much strangers to each other, at the start of their friendship, not making the mistake of superimposing, say, a S4 closeness onto them. The two halves of the fic are linked neatly by the hockey stick Jack's holding at the start; that thematic arc works nicely.
